Mandatory requirements for university to implement
How do you think about the reports of universities that announced rates of grads having jobs at graduation?
Considered as one of the most important elements for quality assessment, the process of inspection and announcing the rates of grads having jobs at graduation had been conducted in so many educational institutions for years. However, in recent years, the management of proportion of university graduates had been held separately in each university with their own methods and that had not been tested by any official organizations.
This year would be the first time; the Ministry officially requested the universities to conduct an inspection about the jobs of university graduates based on the common purpose that had been mentioned above.
Thus, from now on, the process of inspection and investigation about the employment status of university graduates would be a regular, necessary and compulsory activity for every university. Therefore, the Ministry hoped that all universities would publish honest and objective reports about the rates of graduates to convince their prestige.
How to find out dishonest report?
On the basis of comparing the data that were mentioned in reports with the information published by universities as well as other evidences of methods, procedure and the employment surveys about university graduates… The Ministry would classify and revise the suspicious reports as well as conduct randomly checks with random samples to finalize the reliability of the reports that had been announced by universities.
The reporting data of each university would be summed up by the Ministry to create a common data for education sector about university graduates, based on that it could be easy to compare with the data in reports of different universities next years. What will the Ministry do with the universities that published dishonest reports?
The assessment results of the Ministry were also planned to be publically announced for everyone to follow and observe. As for the dishonest universities, the Ministry would base on specific causes and severity to consider about their admission quota next year. However, the most important thing was that when the universities decided to announce honest report, they at the same time lost their reputation and the society would not believe in them anymore.
Reducing unemployment solution
Do you think the unemployment issue could be reduced when applying these regulations?
In facts, the issues of unemployed graduates at graduation also depended on so many different elements: socio-economic situation in each period, the ability to attract investment and quality of human resources… to solve this issue, we really needed to conduct so many comprehensive measures.
The request for universities to announce their reports about the employment status of their graduates was also one of very useful methods to reduce the unemployment status of graduates by supporting them to understand more about the employment opportunities that each educational sector could provide them. Based on that statistics, it would be easier for students to decide what universities they should apply for. Additionally, this measure also helped the universities to consider suitable admission quota and training structure; adjust, supplement and update suitable curriculum to meet the requirements of the market, increase the proportion of graduates having jobs at graduation and reduce the rates of unemployed graduates…
On the other hand, it was very helpful to publish the information about the employment rates of students, who had studied different in majors as the universities would know how they should adjust and update their training methods and purposes. More than that, it also helped students to realize what skills they should improve to increase their employment opportunities. . In the current context of integration, training purposes were not only aimed to support students to find jobs in state agencies, but they were also planned to help students to enhance their ability to startup, realize the necessary of being active to creating job for themselves and the other people, improve language capability, understand more about the recent multi-cultural environment… Based on these supports, the students could find their jobs in different multinational companies in Vietnam or even over the world. Those were different innovative measures to reduce the rates of unemployed graduates.
Moreover, the management bodies could also base on these measures to assess the ability to join in labor market of students from different majors as well as consider adjusting the training structure…
